Conditions of use

If you use these data in a publication or presentation, the standard ethics of citation apply. The metadata document for a data product provides a basic citation format in the Use Constraints field. An example of such a citation is:

Availability

A study’s authors are responsible for writing the metadata and providing quality assurance-checked data. The Station’s archiving team is responsible for reviewing the metadata and performing any needed conversions of data into archival formats. Data sets will generally be published shortly after publication of the peer-reviewed scientific article in which the data are used. Published data will be available for download at this site, in Zip format, for each archival data format. Large data sets may also be made available on CD.

Liability

Metadata documents have been reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Unless otherwise stated, all data and related materials described in published metadata have been used by the USDA Forest Service, and have formed the foundation for one or more peer-reviewed scientific papers. The data are, therefore, considered to satisfy the Forest Service’s high quality standards relative to the purpose for which the data were collected. However, the Forest Service cannot assure the reliability or suitability of these data for a particular purpose. The act of distribution shall not constitute any such warranty, and no responsibility is assumed by the Forest Service for a user’s application of these data or related materials.

The metadata, data, or related materials may be updated without notification. If a user believes errors are present in the metadata, data or related materials, please use the information in (1) Identification Information – Point of Contact, (2) Metadata Reference – Metadata Contact, or (3) Distribution Information – Distributor to notify the Forest Service of the issues. These data were collected by USDA Forest Service researchers and can be used without additional permissions or fees.
