This map shows locations of sandy textured
soils in the northern Lake States. These soils tend to have a low nutrient
supply and dry out rapidly after rainfall. In this region, they typically
support pine forests. Colors in the map represent ranges in percentage of
sandy soils within soil associations. Soil associations are made up of a
group of geographically associated soils which may be quite different from
each other but occur together in repeatable patterns. The information used
to make th is map was derived from soil family particle-size classes, which describe an average soil texture, usually measured within a 10-40 inch depth. This map should be used only for general interpretations, because site-specific soil textures will vary from the average condition depicted here. |
