This map depicts the composition of the
original forests of northern Michigan based on data collected at the time of the first
land surveys, from 1816 through 1856. The area displayed is the Michigan portion of the
ecoregion known as Province 212, Laurentian mixed forest. National Forest proclamation
boundaries are displayed; actual federal ownership is a subset of that area. |
