This map shows the current land cover in part of northern Wisconsin at 30 meter resolution. It is based on Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite data collected in 1992 and 1993. Vegetation and land use classes were derived by a process that included stratification, and a combination of supervised and unsupervised classification of images from two dates. The work was sponsored by the WISCLAND consortium of state and other agencies under the Upper Midwest GAP project, USGS-Biological Research Division. Ecoregion boundaries at the Section and Subsection levels are displayed (adapted from Albert, 1995). National Forest proclamation boundaries are shown, actual federal ownership is a subset within that. County boundaries are also shown. |
